Azam Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers SC have confirmed the sale of their talismanic striker Farouk Miya to Standard Liege of Belgium in a deal worth US $400,000 (Over one billion shillings).
The striker who’s currently part of the Ugandan team participating in the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) joined Vipers in the 2013/2014 mid-season from St Marys College-Kitende making 49 appearances for the club and netting 20 goals in the process.
Farouk Miya was also named Uganda’s footballer of year 2015 at the Airtel-FUFA awards for his contribution at Vipers which saw them lift the Azam Uganda premier league trophy, not forgetting his major contribution to the National team.
A statement on Vipers SC official website confirming his transfer reads in part:
“Vipers Sports Club confirms that Miya Farouq will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with Standard Liege of Belgium.
We would like to thank Miya for his contribution and the role he played in helping Vipers lift the 2014/15 Azam Uganda premier league trophy where he scored 11 goals and 7 assists
Miya Farouq is expected to complete the move worth about Four hundred thousand US dollars ($400.000) after the Africa Nations Championship tournament in Rwanda.”
