Microsoft has revealed that the Facebook Messenger mobile app will launch on Windows Phone within “weeks”.
The computing giant’s vice president Joe Belfiore announced the news at its press & analyst event in Barcelona yesterday (February 23) ahead of the Mobile World Congress show.
“We’ve been working with Facebook testing out their implementation for a while,” he explained. “It’s looking good and we will have it for our customers soon.”
The messaging app is the latest in a growing number of big-name apps to launch on the Microsoft OS, including the arrival of Instagram and Vine.
“There’s a number of more great apps coming soon,” Belfiore continued. “Stay tuned as you hear about more compelling, demanded user apps coming for Windows Phone.”
Mark Zuckerberg is due to deliver a keynote at MWC 2014, as ever-increasing mobile activity looks set to shape Facebook further.
News of the Facebook Messenger’s expansion comes days after the social network acquired rival mobile messaging service Whatsapp for $19bn.
