Social networking giant Facebook on Wednesday has updated its mobile app for Android and iOS devices with new features, bringing the Android app to version 10.0, and the iOS to version 11.0.

The updated Facebook 11.0 app for iOS and Facebook 10.0 app for Android are available to download via their respective app stores.

While the What’s New section of the App Store listing of Facebook 11.0 only mentions, “improvements for reliability and speed”, a Techcrunch report notes the update has two more new features to offer. The US-version of the app now has ‘search’ and ‘invite friends’ buttons in the Nearby Friends feature. Users can activate the optional Nearby Friends feature by tapping on added ‘+’ sign in the added search bar.

For Android users along with the speed and reliability improvement, the updated Facebook 10.0 app now enables the offline ‘Like’ ability. Users can Like or Unlike their posts, photos and pages even if Internet connection is not present – the change will be communicated to Facebook servers once the Android device comes online.

Other than that, users can turn on/ off post notifications, remove tags created by them or can ‘untag’ themselves from a post, photo or page from the Facebook app for Android itself. Earlier, this feature was only limited to the desktop version of Facebook.

Facebook also announced new formatting for app ads, saying, “all app ads (mobile or desktop) that are on the old format will be migrated to the new format” starting August 6.

On its developer blog, Facebook noted that it has starting aligning app ads, and added, “Starting July 2nd, you will no longer be able to create or edit app ads in the old format, or edit ad images for app ads currently running that are using the old format.” The company detailed the additions to mobile and desktop app ads with updated Domain Insights.
