Players from the Wankulukuku based side Express FC have gone on a sit down strike in demand for their salaries that have not been paid in a long while now, according to the team captain Willy Kavuma.
The players accused the club for not paying their monthly salaries for a period of six months. Reports indicate that players at the Red Eagles club earn between 200,000 and 300,000 shillings per month.
“We have families to look after and rent to pay. But the club just keeps making promises. So, how do we survive? Unless they pay us, we are not going to honour any more games,” Kavuma told New Vision.
The players continued to reveal that they expected payments after the titanic clash against rivals SC Villa last week that ended prematurely following a big crowd that gathered for the game. They expected the gate collections from the fans to be enough to have their salaries covered but this did not happen as they were informed that the funds were still insufficient.
“We were surprised when they told us that the gate collections were insufficient,” complained a player.
