Express Football Club officially unveiled Mathias ‘Salonogo Matia’ Lule as their new head coach on Sunday morning at Kibinge hotel. The former Entebbe FC tactician and CAF A licence holder put pen to paper on a three year deal with Red Eagles.
While addressing the media during the unveiling ceremony, club chairman Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi revealed that the Germany trained coach is the right man for the job before adding that he will be assisted by the club’s legendary Hassan “Owe Mamba” Mubiru.
“Mathias Lule is a qualified coach and we have trusted him with the job to take Express F.C ahead. He is the right man for the job,” Hon. Nakiwala remarked.
Lule had recently been named as the new Somalia National team head coach but the deal seems to have somehow gone sideways and that position has since been filled by another Ugandan coach in the names of Haruna Mawa, formerly at SC Victoria University.
Speaking about his appointment, coach Lule said; “I will not promise heaven on earth. Express made me what I am,” before revealing that he has been a team supporter since the age of four.
Lule, a former player for the club brought in by David Otti comes in to fill the void left after the departure of coach Wasswa Bbosa who part ways with the club following the ‘Mukwano gwa bangi’s’ one-all draw with URA FC on Tuesday last week at Muteesa II Memorial Stadium.
With the club set to celebrate sixty years of existence soon, surely there will be a lot of expectations from the former U-17 national side coach in respect to restoring the team’s steadily diminishing glory.
