The internet is currently witnessing the first real life family drama. It’s become a reality show that’s underpinning the family of the late Tamale Mirundi. The war that has been brewing from the time the deceased was in hospital has pitted the family of Zzana against the family of Kyengera.
The actual war came to the surface when the Zzana group decided to visit the Buganda Kingdom offices and officially apologize to the Katikirro over the behaviour of the late Mirundi. The Zanna group had John Ssali (elder Brother of Mirundi), two Mirundi daughters (Nantongo and Mariah), the elder son (Joseph Tamale) and Zzana widow.
Absent was Tamale Mirundi Junior and his mother of Kyengera. In the aftermath of this apology, Tamale MirundiJunior took to his social media platforms and disagreed with what he termed as an act of betrayal. “My father has been betrayed. How do you apologize to people that hated him?”

Following this criticism, the Ssali family headed by John Ssali decided to summon Tamale Mirundi Junior aka Kyagulanyi. In the meeting that has gone viral, Tamale Mirundi Junior was not given a chance to make his point. He was accused of having an arrogant laissez-faire seating posture. In this meeting, the Aunties aka Ssengas didn’t have kind words for Junior.
Junior’s mother watched in calmly. Within a few minutes, Junior chose to leave the meeting as one of the Ssengas hurled insults and sandals at him. Junior came back to collect his mother but was denied a chance. Next, we heard is that Junior has henceforth been chased out of the clan and his wishes of being called Kyagulanyi fulfilled.
The Reasons Behind This Battle
BigEye.ug has learned that there are two major reasons behind this break-up. The first one is a succession battle. The Zzanafamily want Tamale Mirundi’s son of Zzana, Doctor Pontiff Mirundi to be the heir. Some circles wanted the lawyer to be the heir but he says he’s too busy to be the heir.
However, Junior aka Kyagulanyi had already mobilized social media support to appoint him the heir. Junior who was closest and most loved by his late father claims he is the rightful heir. He also says that it’s also the Kyengera family that fulfilled all the funeral wishes of his late father. “My father never wanted to be taken to Church, he also said people should party throughout the vigil,” says Junior. Junior also says sometimes the father’s muzimu visits him and complains to him about this betrayal by the Zzana people.
But beyond this succession, BigEye.ug has learned that John Ssali, the head of the family and the brother to the late Mirundi is a big contractor with UNICEF. As a UNICEF contractor, one of the big projects he has involves work with the Buganda Kingdom. Ssali was scared that the Buganda Kingdom was going to raise an issue of concern which would have forced him to lose out.
Thus, the apology had to be fast-tracked. Tamale Mirundi’s Zzana widow also has work that brings her in close contact with the Kingdom, thus the need for this speedy apology before even the last funeral rites of Mirundi.
