You must have watched the price tag lip dub video starring over 500 women which some are calling the Ugandan version of Jessie J’s Price tag video. The humor is infectious. The technical aspects, awesome! If you have not, stop trending the UCU sextape and watch something worth your time.
The video has gone places! It been shared by different people on different platforms like Jessie J on her twitter account, UK Musician Bono on his website (www.one.org), Huffington Post among others. It has been aired on International TV Stations like Aljazeera, BBC and local channels.
Our very own Moses Abeka had an exclusive interview with the only male in the video, rapper Sylvester Kabombo, who doubles as Bayimba hip hop coordinator. Here is what he had to say:
1.When anyone watches the video, after a couple of replays, the question on their mind is,” Who are those women?” Yes who are they?
These are some of the women supported by www.microbanker.com, a Dutch NGO that provides small business loans to poor women in rural areas in Uganda, who do not have access to conventional bank loans.
2. What is the inspiration behind this video and was it achieved?
The video was done to highlight the work that the organization does for women in the rural areas in Uganda, and to inform the general public that by supporting www.microbanker.com you are supporting these women to start up their own sustainable businesses
3. The technical aspects was flawless!!! Who are the people responsible for this obscene amount of awesomeness?
Thank you! The technical team comprises Ivan Mikulic (Director), Duko Hopman (Producer) and Mexim Janzen (Choreographer). They worked tirelessly for this video to be a success and I am happy it did.
4.Where was it shot?
Mukono.
5.Why did it have to be a ”price tag” lip dub not any other song?
It was choosen by the technical people.
6.Some say your lib dub of B.O.B verse was better than the rapper’s swag. Whats your take?
Hahaha, personally I don’t think so! I was just doing what he had already done, only that I was in a different setting.
7.Should we expect more of such surprises?
Hopefully you should. Personally I never talked about this video to ANYONE until its release, so it was INDEED a surprise to my people.
8. As a rapper, do you believe it is best to promote appreciation of hiphop among local people along ”tribe genres” like Lugafow in Buganda, luoflow in Acholi etc.
Yes I believe so, because we all have different languages, cultures and expressions. There is more that the world should see
9.What do you have in store for the fans?
For my fans, I have a brand new song entitled “Omulya Mamba”, which is now playing on Radio & TV Stations and available on YouTube as well. I am also working on my solo album which is coming out this year 2013. I am performing at my Abramz’ Concert this month Saturday 30th November ’13 at the Uganda Germany Cultural Society (UGCS), Mackinnon Road, behind Fairway Hotel, Kampala. Be There!!
