Patrice Evra has emerged as the next Manchester United player on Inter Milan’s hit-list as the Italians prepare to announce the signing of his Old Trafford team-mate Nemanja Vidic.
Evra, 32, will also be out of contract at United in June and so far the floundering Premier League champions have showed no inclination to offer him a new one. Even then, it is only like to be a one-year extension.
That has opened the door for Inter to lure the Frenchman to Milan with the kind of lucrative, longer-term deal that has persuaded Vidic to swap Old Trafford for the San Siro.
The United skipper will strengthen Inter in central defence but the club are also in the market for a full-back.
With Danilo D’Ambrosio and Japan’s Yuto Nagatomo both able to play on the right and left side of defence, coach Walter Mazzarri has targeted one signing.
Sources close to the club have revealed that Evra and Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna, who is also set to become a free agent this summer, are top of Mazzarri’s list.
Inter’s technical director Piero Ausilio watched both players in action when Arsenal drew 0-0 with United at the Emirates earlier this month.
