Everjobs(www.everjobs.ug), Uganda’s new online job portal, recently started its operations in Kampala.

During a press conference, Co-founder and Managing Director for Africa Eric Lauer introduced the company officially to the public. Everjobs’s mission is to simplify the job search and hiring process by connecting job seekers with employers in a matter of clicks, acting as a key driving force in redirecting Uganda’s best talent to international
companies as well as small local enterprises (SME’s).

Eric Lauer, Co-founder and Managing Director at Everjobs Africa, said, “Heads of HR are currently receiving enormous numbers of paper-based CV’s every day. Everjobs aims to streamline the filtering process through its online platform, as well as mitigate the risk of counterfeit CV’s which have affected HR trust in applicants. Overall the Ugandan economy is thriving with a 5% yearly growth over the last 5 years, even though some sectors such as the oil and gas industry are experiencing a recruitment slowdown, in large part due to delays in oil production.”

Employability is the main issue highlighted by all the key figures in the labor market. A survey conducted by the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) in 2014 found that over 63% of youth in Uganda lack employability skills, technical know-how and basic work-related capabilities. In the same year, the World Bank reported that over 70% of an approximated 400,000 fresh graduates in Uganda were deemed unemployable.

“Everjobs aims to streamline the filtering process in order to help promote employability in Uganda. All applicants will have their CV reviewed by Everjobs to make sure they have the best chances of catching the attention of a recruiter.” Adds Eric Lauer.

There are currently about 170 career opportunities from about 70 employers on the Everjobs platform, including a large number of public sector positions with NGO’s and healthcare services. Although the economy is very centralized, with most opportunities in Kampala, there are some positions in Tororo, Soroti, Mukono, Mbale, Masaka and Luwero.
