From July 4th to 5th, 2025, the Lira Golf Course was abuzz with energy as the 4th edition of the Lira Ladies Golf Open teed off, celebrating women’s growing role in the sport under the powerful theme, “Backing Every Bold Swing.”

Proudly sponsored by Equity Bank Uganda, the two-day event brought together over 100 golfers from across the country, including both professional and amateur players.
The tournament began on Friday with the professionals showcasing their skills, followed by the amateurs who took to the course on Saturday. But beyond the competition, the event was a vibrant celebration of women’s rising presence in golf, particularly in Northern Uganda—a region where such sporting opportunities are steadily gaining momentum.
“As Equity Bank, we value both social and business aspects of the community, a key reason behind sponsoring the 4th Edition of the Lira Ladies Open Golf Championship,” said Kenneth Okello, Manager of Equity Bank’s Lira Branch. He emphasized the bank’s ongoing commitment to uplifting communities through platforms that empower women and foster social connections.
The Lira Ladies Open has grown into more than just a golf tournament—it’s a space for mentorship, networking, and encouragement, inspiring women of all ages to take up the sport and build supportive connections through it.
This year’s championship ended on a high note with Meron Kyomugisha from Kabale Golf Club emerging as the overall winner. Golf stars Martha Babirye and Peace Kabasweka tied for second place, highlighting the depth of talent among women golfers in Uganda.
Equity Bank’s involvement in golf dates back to 2008, and its support continues to demonstrate how sport can be a catalyst for social transformation, community development, and gender inclusion.
The 2025 Lira Ladies Golf Open not only crowned champions but also reinforced the importance of creating inclusive spaces in sports where women are recognized, celebrated, and empowered.
