Musician and politician Eddy Yawe has revealed some surprising facts about his family and upbringing, shedding light on the scale and history of the Ssentamu lineage.

Speaking in a candid interview, Yawe disclosed that his family consists of 34 children, and he is the 11th born among them.
Yawe, known for his strong political opinions and musical talent, proudly stated that he was the first among his siblings to graduate with a degree from Makerere University. “Because of the wars and so on, all my brothers didn’t graduate in time. I was the first one to get a degree at Makerere,” he said.
Not only did he blaze the trail academically, but Yawe was also the first in the family to board an airplane, a moment that marked the beginning of a path his younger siblings would later follow. “Eventually all the others got the privileges too,” he noted.
The singer also sees himself as a pillar in the Ssentamu family, being the one who ventured into music before anyone else. “I was the first one to start music,” he said.
Later, he took the bold step into politics, becoming the first family member to contest for Member of Parliament.
Recounting his family’s revolutionary background, Yawe shared that rebellion runs deep in their bloodline. “My grandfather was a rebel, my father too, and even us — we were arrested when we were young but ran away. We were part of the NRA,” he revealed, referring to the National Resistance Army that led the 1986 revolution in Uganda.
