Renowned Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo has expressed disappointment over what he calls unfair treatment of Ugandan artists at the recently concluded Coffee Marathon held in Ntungamo District last weekend.

Kenzo, who has represented Uganda on several international stages, said he was upset by the “special care” given to Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz during the event.
The celebrated Bongo Flava star arrived in Uganda aboard a private jet, used a chartered helicopter to reach the venue, and was chauffeured in luxury vehicles.

Reports also claim he was paid a staggering Ugx.750 million for his appearance.
In contrast, Kenzo and other local artists reportedly received much less attention and recognition at the same event.
Speaking to the media earlier this week, Kenzo said, “We are not against welcoming international stars, but the same respect should be given to Ugandan artists too. We are doing a lot to promote our country and deserve better treatment.”
Kenzo’s concerns have since spread across several media platforms, sparking public debate on whether Ugandan talent is being undervalued on home soil.
The Coffee Marathon, aimed at promoting coffee farming and tourism in Uganda, attracted thousands of participants and featured performances from both local and international artists. However, the spotlight has now shifted from the event’s success to the controversy surrounding artist treatment.
Organizers of the event have not yet responded to Kenzo’s remarks.
