Musician Eddy Kenzo has missed out on the 2016 Nigerian Entertainment Awards whose nominees were released on Thursday. The singer who was crowned the 2015 African Artiste Of the Year(Non Nigerian/Africa) after beating big names on the continent like Diamond Platnumz(Tanzania), Sauti Sol(Kenya), Sarkodie(Ghana), Stoneboy(Ghana), and AKA(South Africa) will not be able to defend his crown this year.
Meanwhile, the African Artiste Of the Year(Non Nigerian/Africa) category has been expanded to cater for the female and male musicians independently. This has since seen Sheebah Krungi receive a nod in the African Female Artist (Non Nigerian/Africa) category.
She will battle with other musicians on the continent including Vannessa Mdee (Tanzania), Efya (Ghana), Lira (South Africa), MZ Vee (Ghana), Adiouza (Senegal), Victoria Kimani (Kenya) and Knowless Butera (Rwanda).
On the other hand, the African Male Artist (Non Nigerian / Africa) category consists of; Stonebwoy (Ghana), FA (Liberia), Sarkodie (Ghana), Sauti Sol (Kenya), Deng (Liberia), Papa Denis (Kenya), Bisa Kdei (Ghana) and Eric Geso (Liberia).
The Nigerian Entertainment Awards, now in their 11th edition, is an annual event focused on recognizing the contributions of African entertainers to the entertainment industry. This year’s winners will be crowned at a ceremony that will be held on September 4, 2016 in New York City.
