Uganda is over the moon after recording its first-ever Grammy Award nomination.
The Recording Academy on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 announced nominees in its 65th edition and to the surprise for Uganda, its own Masaka-born singer Eddy Kenzo earning a slot.
Eddy Kenzo couldn’t control his tears-of-joy as he took it to his social media and emotionally shared with his followers.
“Isn’t God so good banange, Uganda is in the Grammys,” Eddy Kenzo emotionally stated.
The 2015 BET Award winner has been nominated in the “Best Global Music Performance” category for his “Gimme Love” song with American singer Matthew David Benson famously known as Matt B.
In the category, Kenzo will be battling head-to-head for supremacy with Arooj Aftab & Anoushka Shankar (Udhero Na), Burna Boy (Last Last), Rocky Dawuni Featuring Blvk H3ro (Neva Bow Down), Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini & Nomcebo Zikode (Bayethe).
Eddy Kenzo stands-out among the top artists on the African continent with countless of international awards scooped.
He earned his first international recognition in 2015 when he won the Viewer’s Choice accolade in the BET Awards, which still maintains as the only BET Award in Uganda and East African region as a whole.
Congratulatory messages continue to pour-in from various government of Uganda bodies, fellow musicians and the public.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé has made history with her recently added 2023 Grammy nominations, tying with her husband, rapper Jay-Z, for most Grammy-nominated artist to date.
