Celebrated Ugandan musician Eddy Kenzo has responded strongly to critics who attacked him for speaking out about the unequal treatment of Ugandan artists during the recently concluded Coffee Marathon event held in Ntungamo District.

The award-winning artist expressed disappointment that while Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz received high praise and special attention, Ugandan performers were reportedly sidelined.
“I have a BET award and a Grammy nomination, and I’ve shut down stadiums in over 40 countries,” Kenzo said, defending his achievements and position in the global music industry.
Kenzo, who is one of Uganda’s most successful musicians internationally, argued that local talent should be given the same level of respect and recognition as visiting artists.

His remarks have sparked debate on social media, with some supporting his call for fairness, while others accused him of being jealous or ungrateful.
Despite the backlash, Kenzo stood his ground, saying his statement was not aimed at any individual but rather at raising awareness about how local talent is often overlooked in their own country.
The Coffee Marathon, an event meant to promote Uganda’s coffee sector and tourism, featured performances from top regional artists, with Diamond Platnumz as the headliner.
Kenzo’s comments have since opened wider discussions on how event organizers can better balance international appeal with local artist support in future events.
