Former Uganda Cranes skipper Ibrahim Sekagya’s dream of winning the Major League Soccer (MLS) in his first season is over.
His New York Red Bulls lost to Houston Dynamo 2-1 in extra time to the 2011 and 2012 Eastern Conference champions Houston Dynamo in the second leg of the teams’ Eastern Conference Semifinal series at Red Bull Arena on Thursday morning.
Sekagya had scored against Dynamo in the penultimate game of the regular season and the following match against Chicago Fire to claim the Supporters’ Shield.
But it was not to be the case in the return leg the teams having coming into it tied 2-2. New York took the lead on 23 minutes through forward Bradley Wright-Phillips but Dynamo leveled through Brad Davis.
But an Omar Cummings goal in the 104th minute proved to be the series-winner and sent Houston through 4-3 on aggregate. The Dynamo will face Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference Final.
