Digital Impact Awards Africa is fast streamlining production and consumption of Digital Services in Africa. The DIAA advisory board announced that Dr. Nick Hughes; one of the pioneers of the world’s most successful Mobile Financial service – M-Pesa will deliver a keynote at the third Digital Impact Awards Africa come Wednesday 17, August 2016 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
The keynote will focus on ‘M-KOPA: Innovations and Business Models to optimize the use of Mobile Money in Africa.’
“It is an extraordinary honor, and privilege to have Dr.Nick Hughes as a keynote speaker. Nick is one of the greatest digital and finance innovators of this generation. His work has transformed the lives of millions of Africans. His accomplishments in Africa’s Digital space have inspired so many businesses and individuals. Just like Nick, Digital Impact Awards Africa (DIAA) is determined to further champion the Digital Agenda,” Innocent Kawooya, the DIAA Project director and also CEO HiPipo said.
Adding; “I believe that Nick’s address will inspire and motivate more innovations to deliver cost effective solutions to issues affecting our communities. We should never leave the Digitalization of Africa to only Nick and a few others. This is a challenge that we must all take on.”
At the event, Dr. Nick Hughes will together with the other eminent M-Pesa pioneers; Mr. Michael Joseph and Ms. Susie Lonie similarly receive the Africa’s Financial Inclusion Medals of Honor.
Dr. Nick Hughes is the co-founder of M-KOPA and leads development of new product and new market. Until 2009, Nick was Head of Global Payments at Vodafone Group, where he started M-PESA in 2004. Nick has PhD in Applied Science and an MBA from London Business School. He received an Economist Innovation Award in 2010.
On a related note, Mr. Strive Masiyiwa; the Founder of Econet Group will receive Africa’s Digital Revolution Leadership Medal of Honor while the Founder of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd – Mr. Ren Zhengfei will be awarded Africa’s Digital Inclusion Medal of Honor.
