Ugandan music Doctor, Jose Chameleone, recently humiliated the organisers of Africa’s number one music show, Coke Studio Africa, over allegations of discrimination.
According to Jose, Coke Studio Organizers and management, don’t give all artistes on the show equal exposure. He said that some were being favoured over others.
However, some Ugandan music fans have come out to say that Chameleone is jealous of fellow singer, Juliana Kanyomozi whose debut on the show has turned a lot of heads thanks to her amazing talent, leaving him, the self-proclaimed East Africa’s finest music doctor, in the shadows.
But Chameleone maintains that he is disappointed in the organisers and this has nothing to do with any of the musicians. “I am totally disappointed that you make me and Eva in this year’s season to participate and unfortunately light up artistes that are in your own interests. I have not seen any post from you directing my fans and Eva fans to vote! Next time fix fair balance or don’t get artistes to participate in this manner,” he said.
Fans believe that Chameleone was sad and blue after Juliana’s mash ups with Mr Flavour that not only made it to the Coke Studio album as his songs with Eva didn’t, but also garner a multitude of views on YouTube across Africa.
“When you open up YouTube now, all you see is Juliana and Flavour. Coke Studio has put a lot of money in their music and is promoting it a lot because it’s good. Their mash ups like Ololufe/Haturundi, Nakupenda, Adamma/Diana all have a lot of views compared to Chameleone. Of course as a human being, he felt cheated and had to complain. I think he felt a bit jealous,” said Stanley, a fan of Ugandan music.
Coke studio came out to refute all the claims. They said that they offer all artistes equal opportunity, value his contribution to the show and noted his concerns.
Whether Chameleone is jealous of Juliana’s coke studio success and feels he has not been supported enough is an issue we can’t decide at the moment, but one thing is clear, Juliana is clearly up in the sky, flying with Mr Flavour while Chameleone and Eva languish among the most unpopular artistes on this year’s Coke Studio Africa season.
