Mawokota North MP, Hillary Kiyaga—popularly known as Dr. Hilderman—has announced that he will not seek re-election in the 2026 general elections if he fails to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) party ticket.

Dr. Hilderman, a musician-turned-politician, made the declaration during an appearance on Sanyuka Television on Tuesday morning.
He emphasized his loyalty to the NUP and its leadership, stating that his political journey is tied to the party’s mission and vision.
“If I don’t get the NUP ticket, I won’t be on the ballot. However, I will remain dedicated to the party’s activities, as expected of me, because I understand NUP’s vision and its future direction,” he said.
The legislator was elected to Parliament in 2021 on the NUP ticket, defeating former Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde.
Despite the uncertainty, Dr. Hilderman reaffirmed his support for NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, stating that his current focus is on backing Kyagulanyi’s presidential ambitions rather than securing his own parliamentary future.
“The ticket is not my priority right now. My priority is to support Kyagulanyi in his presidential campaign. I understand the party’s vision and respect its constitution. I can’t come on television and claim that I’m guaranteed the NUP ticket,” he added.
