Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger gave updates on player fitness ahead of the FA Cup final this weekend. Arsene Wenger revealed fitness doubts over key duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and club captain Thomas Vermaelen ahead of the FA Cup final.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom as far as fitness is concerned with Wenger confirming that Jack wilshere’s progression back to full fitness is going according to plan.

“Wilshere has been working hard and he progresses well.”

The Frenchman also said Arsenal don’t need any warning ahead of the game becuase of it’s final status.

“I don’t believe we need any warning, a final is a final. It’s down to us to perform on the day,” said Wenger.

Wenger maintained his defence of Arsenal’s season, suggesting that the FA Cup would be the icing on the cake but things continue to develop as he’d hope.

“This is an opportunity for us to crown our season well. It will look better if we win it.”

“I don’t feel there is any danger of complacency. We’ve had a hard FA Cup run.”

Wenger also paid tribute to the challenge Hull represent this weekend, again praising Hull City manager Steve Bruce.

“He’s done extremely well. To keep them up and go to the FA Cup is a great achievement.”

Wenger played down the significance of a first trophy for Arsenal since 2005, suggesting English football makes it difficult to win silverware frequently.

“Our target is to win trophies. In England it is difficult because many teams can do that.”

“A victory would make me very happy because our fans expect that and we want to make them happy.”
