Chelsea striker Diego Costa has won the Barclays Player of the Month award for August after a stunning start to his Premier League career.
The Spaniard moved to west London from Atletico Madrid in a £32million deal this summer and has quickly endeared himself to the Blues faithful with four goals in three games.
It took him just 17 minutes to score on his debut against Burnley on the opening weekend before finally breaking Leicester’s resistance in a 2-0 win a week later.
However Costa’s best display to date came in the crazy 6-3 win at Everton as he bagged the opener inside 30 seconds and went on to complete the scoring late on.
On receiving the award, he said: “I’m very happy to win this award. It is important to begin well at a new club and I’m pleased with both my start to the season and also the team’s, which is the most important thing.
‘I hope to continue scoring goals to help out the team and keep making our fantastic supporters happy. I thank my team-mates as they have helped me win this award.”
The Manager of the Month award went to Swansea’s Garry Monk after a perfect start to the campaign.
Swansea have won all three matches so far – starting off with the excellent 2-1 win at Old Trafford on the opening day. A 1-0 win over Burnley was followed by a 3-0 demolition of West Brom before the international break to take Monk’s men second in the table.
The Swans travel to the only other side with a 100 per cent record this weekend – Costa’s Chelsea.
