Derby County, Blackburn, Wigan and Birmingham all in for Martin Kayongo-Mutumba, a player dubbed as the Uganda’s Ronaldinho.
According to the Mirror Steve McClaren’s Derby are one of four clubs chasing a player dubbed ‘’Uganda’s Ronaldinho’’.
The 28-year-old step over specialist currently plays for Allsvenskan side AIK, who have just finished 2nd in the league behind Malmo, despite the disappointment of not winning the league, they have qualified for the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League which will be a huge pull to the Youtube and FIFA sensation Mutumbu.
Despite that, 4 Championship clubs have put him on their radar and will look to fight over him when his contract expires in the next couple of weeks and Steve McClaren’s Derby look early favourites for his signature.
The tricky winger has been a key player for AIK this season, winning their award for the most assists and being placed 3rd overall in the league for creativity. Having already impressed against Manchester United this season in a pre-season friendly, in which he won Man of the Match, he commented on a possible move to England:
‘’It has always been a dream of mine since I was young to play in England
‘’I have grown up watching English football in Sweden and I feel now the time is right to go and try and play in England’’
He also opened up to nearly joining Crystal Palace in 2008, but the move didn’t prevail due to ‘’a number of reasons’’
The player is clearly very keen on a move to England and he has been playing at the top of his game. With some of the Championship’s top clubs taking a very serious look at him, and perhaps even some Premier League clubs too, it will be interesting to see where Uganda’s answer to Ronaldinho ends up.
