For long, players around different clubs in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) have engaged in sit down strikes due to failure by their employers to meet their end of the deal when it came to salaries at the end of the month. Clubs like Victoria University, Villa and Entebbe among others have been named in such scandals. Recently in a clubs’ meeting, the FUFA vice president Denis Mbidde urged all clubs to pay their players to keep a smooth running of the league and the game at large.
Well, as always, Uganda’s most prominent club SC Villa have chosen to lead by example on that note and have cleared all player arrears ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU).
The development follows a little financial chat that the SC Villa president Eng. Ben Emmanuel Misagga had with his players today after their training session at the Villa Park.
“Let nobody fool you that we don’t think about you. We are always trying to look for money for your salaries and other needs but sometimes it does not come on time. We have never forgotten about you, and I assure you that we shall always try our best to work on your issues. But you also need to work hard on the pitch so that your performance can also help us market you (players) and the team to potential sponsors. No one will bring their money into the club if the team is not performing well, and that’s up to you”, reads a statement on the club’s official Facebook page.
