David Beckham could be in line for England role

England boss Roy Hodgson believes the FA would snap David Beckham’s hand off if his offer to help the Three Lions is realistic.

Former skipper Becks insisted last week that he would put himself at the disposal of FA chiefs if he was wanted.

And while Hodgson already has Gary Neville and Ray Lewington as his chief lieutenants, he admitted it would be impossible for the FA to turn down a genuine Beckham offer.

He said: “If you are talking about someone of David’s stature, with his qualities and personality, I’m certain if he can find the time to lend his presence to the FA they would be happy to find a role for him within an England capacity.

“If he could make himself available for England in some way, I have no doubt in my mind that Greg Dyke and Alex Horne would welcome his presence.”

Beckham, 39, England’s most-capped outfield player with 115 appearances, who captained the team 59 times, remains one of the game’s greatest ambassadors.

The ex-Manchester United star is trying to launch an MLS franchise in the USA, but never hides his love of his country and always speaks about his wish to come to the nation’s aid.
