Local teams have started preparations for the forthcoming 2016/2017 season and Jinja based Uganda Premier League clubs have not been left out. The four topflight clubs from Jinja that include Bul FC, Sadolin Paints FC, JMC Hippos and newly promoted side Kirinya Jinja SS (2015/2016 FUFA Big League champions) are due for an inaugural pre-season tournament dubbed the ‘Eastern G4 tournament’ that was given a green light by local football governing body FUFA.
The tournament that was launched on Monday by Tangosport (the chief organisers) in partnership with FUFA, Baba FM and Bidco Uganda will run for two days and a guest team is expected to be invited to take part.
“We are discussing with Tanzanian side Azam, Onduparaka, URA or Express to see whether we can have any as the best possible guest team,” Tangsport manager, Joseph Mutaka told the press at the Busoga Kingdom Headquarters before adding that the competition will be played on a round robin basis. A win will bring a team three points, a draw one point with each goal earning an extra point.
According to the organizers, the tournament is scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 30-31, 2016 at the Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe.
