Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge out for weeks with calf injury

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out for another two to four weeks after suffering a calf injury in training.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers had hinted the England international could return to action in Sunday’s Premier League game against QPR after being on the sidelines since early September after picking up a thigh injury during an England training session.

However, the 25-year-old injured his calf during training at Melwood on Thursday and a scan has revealed he could be absent for up to another month.

“Daniel has pulled his calf,” said Rodgers. “He’s looking at being out for another two to four weeks.

“It’s a big blow as we were looking forward to welcoming Daniel back. He has worked tirelessly.

“But we have other players training hard and working hard and we will turn to them. It’s why we bulked up the squad in the summer.”

Sturridge could miss up to seven matches in all competitions due to his new injury, including both of Liverpool’s Champions League clashes with Real Madrid.

He must also be rated doubtful for England’s next European Qualifier against Slovenia on November 15 and the friendly clash with Scotland three days later.
