Hon. Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye , state minister for health and general duties has said tour operators need to be applauded for shaping the economy through their services.
Speaking at the Uganda tourism event celebrating cultures at Speke ballroom in Munyonyo, the minister commended the organizers for keeping the event African, but most especially Ugandan. The minister represented the President of Uganda who had been invited as the guest of honor.
“I’am glad that our dinner was composed of our Ugandan organic foods,” he said. “I am also impressed that most of you are dressed in traditional attires.”
Close to 500 people attended the event including cultural leaders, Kwagalana group, Uganda tourism organizations. The guests were entertained by Ndere troupe, Desire Luzinda, I love Uganda Kids troupe, Forgiven Children and Chozen blood.
The event, organized by Uganda Tourism Night management under the chairmanship of Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia attracted sponsorship from Red pepper, New Vision, CBS, Juice fm, Events warehouse, Hello Uganda, SMS Media, Nile Breweries Aero Link, NTV Uganda and Coca Cola.
The event organisers honoured some women for their significant roles in Uganda’s tourism sector ; Babra Adoso (director Asyanut Safaris & Incentives (Tours and Travel Uganda)), Connie Tumusiime(director Acacia Safaris Uganda), Hajjat Mariam Kyeyune (director Arch apartments) and Joyce Kikomeko( director Ssese Island beach hotel) were declared “Women of Substance”
Great Lakes, Gorilla tours, the Uganda Safari Company, Pearl of Africa tours and Kazinga tours proudly purchased the highest number of tickets to the event making AUTO proud.
