Uganda players have threatened to boycott a trip to Botswana this afternoon if the government fails to provide the promised allowances.
A source told MTNFootball.com this morning that they have been very patient since the trip to Egypt early this month where they got no allowances, but will not board the plane if there is no money today.
“We cannot afford to leave our families without money,” said the player.
According to the structure set by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), each player gets $500 as allowance while on a foreign trip.
The Cranes are meant to face Botswana in Gaborone on August 31st in an international friendly.
When MTNFootball.com contacted head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, he was elusive and simply said he does not know what will happen if the money from government does not come through.
“I am really trying my best as a coach, but am disappointed that two days after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni provided money, it has not come through yet,” said the coach.
On August 12th, Micho was forced to spend his personal money ($500) to pay for visas in Egypt.
About the professionals who are meant to link up with the team, Micho said they will find Sudan-based Joseph Kabagambe in Nairobi, while South African-based goalkeeper Denis Onyango will join the team in Gaborone. Vietnam-based duo of Geoffrey Kizito and Moses Oloya were expected to jet in this morning.
The Cranes are using the Botswana friendly to prepare for the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Senegal slated for September 7th in the neutral ground of Marakkech, Morocco.
