Cranes Braced For Tough Group Ride

Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic believes that while next year’s Africa Nations Championship (Chan) Group B could be categorized as – in his words – the toughest, there is no easy one.

The draws done in Cairo on Wednesday pitted Uganda against Zimbabwe, Morocco and Burkina Faso in Group B while hosts South Africa, Nigeria, Mozambique and Mali landed in Group A.

Clearly work is cut out for Micho, who must better Uganda’s performance at the tournament for home-based players.

The only time Uganda appeared at the championship they lost all their group games, then at the 2011 Sudan edition.

“Morocco is using the tournament as a stepping stone for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, which they will host,” Micho told supersport.com, adding, “So they are taking it very seriously.”

“Zimbabwe’s coach Ian Gorowa is a good coach and has organized his team since taking over while Burkina Faso reached the finals of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations and are very competitive. I could say ours is a group of death.

“But we have prepared for all this, we know we can to go there and compete. We also have Cecafa in December to work on our weaknesses and improve our strong points.

“Our target remains going past the group stage and after that anything is possible.” The Championship will start from January 11 to February 1.
