A Congolese woman has been sentenced to life in prison by a Kibera court and ordered to pay a KSh1 million fine for having 100 rolls of bhang in her private parts.
Asimbo Atondi appeared before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Elizabeth Osoro and pleaded guilty to having bhang weighing 115.8g valued at KSh2,316.
Atondi claimed that as a musician, the drug helps her concentrate and perform on stage with confidence and asked to be forgiven.
She was arrested on January 16 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with the drugs hidden in a condom and carefully inserted in her private parts.
State counsel, Grace Okalo, told magistrate Osoro that the accused was arrested last Friday by the anti-narcotics police unit adding that she is a first-time offender.
Osoro in her ruling said she considered her mitigation and the nature of the offence and ordered that she serves a life sentence.
