Comedy Store Uganda has announced the much-anticipated 2023 edition of the Comedy Store Awards. This prestigious event aims to recognize the most exceptional comedians and the most humorous personalities in the industry for the year 2023.
The inaugural Comedy Store Awards took place on December 19, 2019, and this year’s ceremony is scheduled to coincide with the Comedy Store’s end-of-year show on December 20th at the UMA multipurpose hall in Lugogo.
Uganda’s comedy scene has experienced remarkable growth, thanks to a burgeoning pool of comedic talent and a wide range of diverse performers.
According to Comedy Store Uganda CEO, Alex Muhangi, “Comedy is an art form that requires hard work and ingenuity. It’s a skill to turn everyday, sad, or sensitive topics into something that can make people crack up. Given the growing scrutiny of comedy content, it’s important to appreciate the effort that goes into producing such art.”
In addition to acclaimed comedians, the awards will also honor everyday individuals with hilariously entertaining personas, including socialites, politicians, TikTokers, and prominent figures in social media.
Public nominations for the awards will be accepted through various Comedy Store Uganda social media platforms. A panel will then shortlist the candidates with the most nominations, and voting will also take place through the same channels.
This year’s awards will continue to build on the success of the inaugural 2019 edition, wherein MC Mariachi was honored as the Best Comedian.
Categories for the awards include recognition for personalities on various social media platforms, up-and-coming comedians, politicians, women, men, and iconic comedy figures. There will also be special awards for the most supportive fan(s) of Comedy Store, as well as regional comedians.
