Ugandan musician and Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) president Cindy Sanyu has revealed plans to meet President Yoweri Museveni with a request to allow fellow artist-turned-politician Bobi Wine to return to the stage.

Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, was banned from staging local performances following his entry into active politics and continued criticism of government policies.

Cindy, however, believes the government should be able to separate his political role from his artistic career.

“I will be meeting with President Museveni to ask him to allow Bobi Wine back on stage,” Cindy said, adding that music should not be entirely taken away from someone who has multiple responsibilities in society.

“God gives us very many responsibilities so it’s not good to tie someone on one thing and stop them on another. That’s something I’d love to talk about because I see myself in the same direction,” she explained.
