Chrome Update Introduces New Incognito Icon, Security Fixes

Chrome browser

Google released this week the latest version of its Chrome web browser — Chrome 36 — for Mac, Windows, Linux and Android. The new update comes with a collection of bug fixes and feature improvements.

In addition to routine security repairs, the desktop version has a different Incognito icon. Incognito allows users to browse the Internet without the visited websites being saved in the browser’s search history.

Before, the icon was the outline of a private eye character: now, it is bigger in size and simpler in design, omitting the face and featuring just a Sherlock Holmesian hat and round glasses. The message that appears beside the icon is also a paragraph shorter.

The platform now also supports Chromecast — Google’s media streaming device — as well as improved notifications and bubbles that alert users when the system crashes or is compromised.

Featured on the Android update is the return of Google Doodles to the tab page; previously, the page only showed the standard Google logo. On phones and tablets, text is now easier to read on websites not specifically engineered for mobile viewing.

The updated Chrome can be downloaded here, while Android owners can get it on Google Playhere.
