And the sexiest man alive is…Chris Hemsworth!
That’s right, Thor took the 2014 crown, as bestowed by People magazine. Jimmy Kimmel scored the big reveal on Tuesday night.
The Avengers favorite takes over for Adam Levine, who was named the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in 2013.
Celeb watchers had widely expected Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt, or future Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris to take the hunky crown, but Hemsworth surprised, throwing his hammer into the race late in the game.
The requirements of People’s Sexiest Man title typically include a beefcake photo spread, plus an accompanying interview that allows for a peek inside the star’s life (the more romance details, the better). Photos should start to roll in from the shoot soon.
Hemsworth joked to People that he “hit his peak a few years ago,” but it’s no stretch that the 31-year-old Australian actor (and brother to actor Liam) took the title: He’s a hunky dad of three, sharing parenting duties of daughter India, 2, and 8-month-old twin sons Sasha and Tristan with his model wife Elsa Pataky, 38.
“I think you’ve bought me a couple of weeks of bragging rights around the house,” Hemsworth toldPeople of his new honor. “I can just say to (my wife), ‘Now remember, this is what the people think, so I don’t need to do the dishes anymore, I don’t need to change nappies. I’m above that. I’ve made it now.’ “
Past ‘sexiest’ men include: George Clooney (1997 and 2006), Brad Pitt (1995 and 2000), Johnny Depp (2003 and 2009), Matthew McConaughey (2005), Matt Damon (2007), Ben Affleck (2002) and Channing Tatum (2012).
