Chris Brown looked to be in good spirits as he left the Superior Court in Washington DC on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old musician had just rejected a plea deal for his involvement in an assault case that included a fan and his bodyguard, according to TMZ. The incident took place outside the W hotel in October when Brown was already on probation for a 2009 attack on singer Rihanna who he was dating at the time.
That means the Turn Up The Music singer will now have to go to trial in the fall.
Prosecutor Kevin Chambers said Wednesday they offered a deal for Brown to plead guilty to simple assault and time served.
But the Grammy-winning singer’s attorney Mark Geragos said defense lawyers and prosecutors couldn’t agree on a statement of facts about what happened outside the hotel.
Brown was in court Wednesday, wearing jeans, a leather jacket and a tie. His trial was scheduled for September 8.
Chris and his bodyguard Christopher Hollosy were accused of hitting Parker Adam outside a hotel and breaking his nose.
The Love More singer could face a maximum of six months in jail and $1,000 fine if convicted.
He was released in early June after serving 108 days of a 131-day sentence for probation violation, TMZ reported.
