A team of home based players yesterday entered residential training at the Njeru technical center in Jinja as they step up their preparations ahead of the clash with neighbors Tanzania.
Uganda is set to face off with Tanzania in the preliminary round of the competition were the victor after two legs will face Sudan at the next stage of the competition.
The squad has been training since Monday without players from SC Villa and KCCA who were to take part in yesterday’s Uganda Cup final replay that ended with Villa as champions after thrashing KCCA 3-0.
KCCA’s Benjamin Ochan and Martin Kizza and SC Villa’s Hassan Wasswa Mawanda and Erisa Ssekisambu are some of the players that missed the recent training sessions with the rest of the team while Vipers’ Farouk Miya had also been exempted from training. The exemption came after the youngster featured in Saturday’s game for 90 minutes as Uganda defeated Botswana in the opening game of Group D in the 2017AFCON qualifiers.
