Dr. Jose Chameleone’s father, Mzee Mayanja, has spoken out about the singer’s murder charges.
Chameleone who is accused of allegedly taking part in the death of a one Karamagi back in 2012 had been declared innocent until the case was re-opened recently. Although Karamagi died at Chameleone’s Seguku home after allegedly being tied to a pole and burnt to ashes like in the Old Testament times, Chameleone said that he had nothing to do with his death back in 2012 and no evidence was availed to refute this fact.
His father, Mayanja, spoke to a local tabloid recently. He insisted that he knows his children very well, and that Chameleone is incapable of murder. “Personally, I feel the case was thoroughly investigated and all available evidence was fully examined and judgment was passed that Joseph was an innocent man. That case was revisited thrice! So I can only wait as anybody else to see what new evidence the DPP has that pushed him to resurrect the case,” the old man said.
He was quick to say that the rumours going around about family meeting being chaired by himself to help water down the case are useless rumours with no truth in them. “Why would we sit a meeting? What can we do? Like I told you, at this stage, all we can do is look on and wait for the DPP’s next action. As a family, there’s nothing much we can do apart from being by Joseph,” he added.
The case which had been closed in 2012 was re-opened when Benedict Kyamanywa, who had been in Somalia on official duty returned. Maj. Kyamanywa then went to Katwe and resurrected the case last week upon his return from Somalia.
“When the boy was dying in Mulago he told me he was tied to a pole with a rope and burnt down with aviation fuel in Chameleone’s home,” said the Major.
“I was going to Somalia so I left everything in the hands of Police. I was shocked upon my return to learn that the case was closed and no one was prosecuted for the death of my boy,” said the major as he took the case to the DPP for further investigations.
The soldier wants an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the closure of the file and the person who killed his boy.
We will keep you posted.
