It was a do or die situation at Lugogo Cricket Oval as hundreds of people lined up to set their eyes on the Jamaican dancehall sensational Konshens and Alaine. Most of these were left disappointed with the way the whole show was organized after failing to force their way through the action packed gates.
During the UB40 concert that was held at same venue some years back, one of the shows to have pulled the largest crowd in the history of Uganda, seemed more organized at the gates than this show. Many people failed to access the show yesterday and were forced to bounce back to their homes despite owning tickets. By the time it clocked 9:30pm when Alaine got on stage, people were still flowing like a swarm of bees.
Some people that were able to enter Cricket Oval expressed their dissatisfaction with the performance by Konshens who got on stage shortly after Alaine as it clocked 11pm because apparently he didn’t live up to the crowd’s expectations. This comes a few hours after one member of Eagles said they can put up a better performance than “Konseniz”. It makes me want to agree with him.
“I was extremely disappointed with Konshens’ performance. I expected him to do better than that and it seems he even has few songs. Oops… cannot perform for even 3 hours! Chameleone is a better performer”, said Miranda Jane from Najanankumbi.
He sang most of his songs but according to many people that we were able to talk to, Uganda’s Chameleone would have done wonders for such a turn up if given more time.
This was witnessed when he was called on stage by Konshens and the whole crowd went crazy. Chameleone straight away started stomping the stage with his boys as he sang satisfaction with Konshens singing along.
Accordingly, Alaine whom people expected to be some how boring seemed to perform even better the main man himself because she was able to do some of her songs live on a key board. Konshens performed all his songs miming and this created no difference with our “local but classy in their own way” musicians.
