Cesc Fabregas denies inappropriate celebration

Cesc Fabregas has denied making an inappropriate gesture while celebrating a goal in Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Celta on Tuesday.

The Spain international was booed and whistled as he left the field in the 70th minute of the game at Balaidos, with the home fans reportedly upset by the way in which the 26-year-old celebrated the key part he played in doubling the Blaugrana‘s advantage.

However, Fabregas, who netted Barca’s third goal, insists that he did nothing wrong.

“I celebrated normally,” he insisted. “I jumped up and I don’t think I did anything out of the ordinary.”

As far as Fabregas was concerned, the controversy did not take the gloss of what he felt had been a fine Barcelona performance.

“In some games we haven’t been clinical enough in attack, but today the goals went in,” the former Arsenal captain enthused.

“What’s important is creating chances and scoring goals. We put in a complete performance.

“We played well and were compact. If we press high up people say we leave spaces at the back. It’s down to us to choose what we have to do.”

Barca’s victory moves them four points clear of Atletico Madrid in second, who face Granada on Thursday.
