Emotional Celine Dion claims that the ghost of her husband is with her daily as she celebrated performing one thousand shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday night.
At times teary eyed, award winning vocalist Celine reflected on healing with her three sons over her continued grief over the loss of husband Rene Angelil in January.
She revealed that her sons finally feel more settled returning to the Vegas home, where their father died – and that she still feels her husband’s spirit at her side.
The 48-year-old revealed that she is more at ease with losing mentor, manager and partner Rene thanks to visiting her mother Therese in Canada this summer.
Celine laughed and was often overwhelmed during a breathtaking 90 minute show, which saw her get at least eight standing ovations.
The show cemented her position as the Entertainment Queen of The Las Vegas Strip. Looking unsettled Celine opened the show telling the sell out crowd: “My wonderful dear husband is here tonight with us. I am so sure.”
The Canadian then discussed how she had healed with sons Rene-Charles, Eddy and Nelson by enjoying a lengthy summer break in Canada in between tour dates.
“We have been touring this summer. We went on a little vacation – well they told us we were going on a vacation but I think the transition from English to French was not quite right because we went on tour.
“It is a good thing that we love what we do. We had such a great time, and we got to see our families, friends and our kids had such a great time to play with cousins, my mum and brothers and sisters, and we ate corn on the cob and sat at fires outside.
“It was so wonderful, because when I went home with my kids they were playing bare feet in the grass with frogs and worms…because here (in Vegas) you cannot go out in bare feet ..no no. It is way too hot. It was wonderful and what we all needed.. fun. I am amazed my mum is going to be 90 years old and I am so proud of her what they gave us.
“Now it is really great feeling to come back here (Las Vegas), We are still feeling like we are home – and it is wonderful. This is pretty amazing.”
Celine said that Rene felt she could change the landscape of Las Vegas with the show – and she has.
Her residency sparked the beginning of the superstar long running shows paving the way for Caesars to bring in stars like Rod Stewart, Shania Twain and Elton John.
Celine said that she was proud to have proved early critics wrong.
“Somehow it was written that the Titanic was going to sink again well if it is about to sink again 15 tears later then i am very proud that we are here tonight. It could not have been done without all of you, Rene obviously, AEG and Caesars Palace. For believing in the dream, thank you to the four million fans who have come to see this show.
“One thousand shows later? I don’t feel that old!”
