Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) striker, Ceasar Samson Okhuti is uncertain of his spot with the Uganda Cranes ahead of Burkina Faso ties in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers later this month.
Okhuti made his return to the national team during last year’s CECAFA Cup in November-December that followed his impressive form at Express FC in the league. The striker has however been troubled with injuries since joining KCCA in the January mid-season transfer window forcing him to be out for most of his side’s action.
“I haven’t played to the best of my ability since I arrived at KCCA mostly due to injuries and I won’t be surprised if Micho (Milutin Sredojevic) doesn’t summon me for the Afcon game,” Okhuti recently told a local newspaper, the Daily Monitor.
Okhuti admits that he is yet to retain his form that saw him shine at the Cecafa tournament with the Cranes in Ethiopia.
“After having a good Cecafa Cup, the Chan tourney in Rwanda went bizarre and I’m still struggling to get back to my best,” Okhuti said.
However, he scored a brace yesterday as KCCA FC beat Soana FC by 2-0 in the Azam Uganda Premier league. May be coach Micho will look at the back of that performance to give him a chance as he names his Cranes squad today.
With Geoffrey Massa still struggling for form after being side lined for almost a month, Brian Umony still nursing a fractured leg, the 47-year-old Serbian doesn’t seem to be having many options but will look at the likes of URA’s Robert Ssentongo and Diego Hamis Kiiza for strikers.
Uganda Cranes travel to Ouagadougou to play the Stallions on 26th March before hosting them at Namboole on 29th in the Group D fixtures. Uganda leads the pool with 6 points from two games while Burkina Faso and Botswana are tied on three points with Comoros pointless at the bottom.
