Carol Nantongo reveals she has never written any song for herself

In a surprising revelation during an interview on Galaxy FM, Carol Nantongo, the Ugandan songstress, stunned fans by admitting that she has never written any of her songs.

Despite this revelation, she asserted her involvement in the creative process by tweaking lyrics to her liking.

The disclosure sheds light on an often overlooked aspect of the music industry where songwriters frequently labor behind the scenes, crafting melodies and lyrics that become chart-topping hits, only to receive minimal recognition.

However, Nantongo’s perspective challenges this narrative, suggesting that by purchasing songs from writers, artists like herself become rightful owners of the music they perform, blurring the lines of authorship and ownership.

Despite not being the lyricist behind her songs, Carol Nantongo has amassed a number hit singles, including the popular tracks “Nyiga Wano” and “Ndabula” featuring the B2C, which dominated the airwaves last year.

Nantongo’s revelation also highlights a broader trend within the Ugandan music industry, where few female artists are recognized for their songwriting abilities.
