Carly Rae Jepsen confirms her new album is in the works. However, Jepsen says in a recent interview with Billboard that the album won’t come anytime soon as she still works to make it better than its predecessor, 2012’s “Kiss”.

“I think ‘Kiss’ was a bit of a rush,” the 27-year-old Canadian singer admits. “So I think I’ll be kind of taking my time to make sure what I’m putting out there next feels like the strongest thing I can make.”

When asked about the writing process for her upcoming new album, the ‘Call Me Maybe’ singer says that it began “the day ‘Kiss’ was turned in.” She also confesses that she already has three songs in the bag.

In addition to working with previous collaborators Ryan Stewart and Josh Ramsay on the project, Jepsen will enlist the musical help of “a lot of younger guys who are all Canadians and just really creative and have a lot going on.”

During the interview, Jepsen explains her decision to axe her show at National Scout Jamboree due to the Boy Scout of America’s controversial policies towards gay members and leaders. She says, “It’s pretty simple; I believe in equality for everyone.”

“I did not know that [the Jamboree] was going to be the big deal it became, but it just wasn’t something I felt comfortable supporting. So I got out of it, and I’m hoping that moments like that do put a bit more light on that sort of subject, because it’s something that shouldn’t be an issue any longer. This sort of stuff needs to stop now.”

Jepsen also takes the opportunity to defend her fellow Canadian singer, Justin Bieber. She expresses her disagreement with media that exposes Bieber’s recent antics, saying, “People are constantly, like, ‘Is Justin OK?’ I’ve not really noticed any of that. I feel like Justin’s a guy who’s working hard every day, and I think the media can sometimes be a little brutal with stuff and over-exaggerate things. But I stand by him. I support him. I think he’s a good guy, and he’s doing the best he can.”
