South Africa based tycoon Charles Mbibo famously known as Cameroon Gitawo has distanced himself from claims that he was involved in a racket that saw another Ugandan conned of $450,000 (about Ugx 1.7 billion) in a botched business deal that included selling cars to him.
The news comes after the arrest of a one Geoffrey Nwase on Friday for allegedly obtaining money from Bashir Semakula by false pretense. Geoffrey claimed to work closely with Cameroon Gitawo, who is presently in South Africa, and after he got paid, he switched off his known contacts. This prompted Bashir Semakula to lodge a case at Central Police Station (CPS) vide KMP GEF 237/2018.
Gitawo has vehemently denied involvement in the said racket. He says he doesn’t know about the said deal and the persons involved. He believes it is a deliberate plot to tarnish his name and has threatened to sue Bashir Semakula for tarnishing his name.
“If he is demanding the said money from me, why is he doing it after one year and a half? Why is he doing it after he heard I was coming to Uganda?” He quizzed, adding that, “I have sold tons of cars to Ugandans with no complaints. He just wants to spoil my name. I have never meet or communicated with him.”
