The president of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou is in preparations to run for another term as president of the continental football governing body.
With his current term due to end in 2017, a year in which he will be clocking 70 years of age, Hayatou is fighting tooth and nail to make amends in the constitution of the body which limits anybody of the age 70 and above to contest for presidency.
The amends will aim at giving him the opportunity to stand for another term in office should he succeed in making changes in these rules. Hayatou and his colleagues are picking a leaf from the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) where amends in the body’s constitution put no age limit for anyone to stand for presidency.
“Fifa does not have age limits for its committee members so CAF wants to bring this in line with them,” executive committee member Kwesi Nyantakyi, also the FA boss of Ghana told Supersport.com.
These amends are expected to be made in April, 2015 at the body’s congress in Cairo and if Issa Hayatou succeeds in making this happen, he will be able to seek for his eighth term in office as the CAF president. The Cameroonian has been in charge since the late 80’s.
