Busoga Kyabazinga Gabula Nadiope William Wilberforce Kadhumbula IV joined thousands of football fans at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole to watch the Uganda Cranes make history as they qualified for Africa Cup of Nations again after 38 years.
Uganda defeated Comoros 1-0 in their final Group D game in the 2017 AFCON qualifiers to break the 38-year jinx and secure a slot at Africa’s biggest football tournament in Gabon next year.
Congratulating the victorious Uganda Cranes, the Kyabazinga vowed to provide the necessary institutional support, to identify and develop the vast available sports talent that is required by our various National Teams, to ensure that our Country regularly excels at the continental and global sporting showpieces.
He further noted that the success of the Uganda Cranes should inspire all of us, especially the youth because it is a clear manifestation that what appears to be a “glass ceiling” can be easily broken if we institute the necessary processes, and are purposeful and united, adding that the triumph of the Cranes should therefore reinvigorate our dedication to the pursuit of excellence not just in sports but in all our life’s aspirations.
He concluded saying that he will host the Uganda Cranes at an opportune moment with a match against a select team from the ongoing Busoga Kingdom Masaza competition and a dinner thereafter.
