Uganda’s dancehall artiste and presidential adviser on ghetto affairs Mark Bugembe also known as Buchaman has vowed to fight for fairness as musicians receive their stimulus fund.
While speaking in an interview, Buchaman explained that he will no sit and watch certain individuals act greedy yet every artiste is meant to get a share on the fund given the hard times that the industry has gone through due to the pandemic.
He stressed that the music industry stretches to all the five regions of the country and therefore artistes in all those regions should be considered.
With so much energy, Buchaman said he will do anything to ensure fairness. “I will actually walk up to Entebbe to meet the president over this matter. This is not an issue we can just take lightly.” Buchaman said.
He further said that the Ministry concerned should have considered artistes not promoters explaining that promoters do not put as much effort as the artistes. “Those promoters just promote what is already there therefore they should receive money after the artistes get their share since the artistes actually create this work.”
Last week, the Minister of State for Youth and Children affairs, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi revealed that the government has set aside 6.6billion shillings meant for artistes to recover from the pandemic.
The honourable minister went on to reveal that the Department of culture under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development is compiling the list of beneficiaries and working out modalities about how funds will be managed.
This has however left a lot arguments amongst artistes who say it will be hard to promote fairness.
We will keep you posted.
