A British man who booked a flight from his iPhone after a night of heavy drinking awoke the next morning in an airport bathroom 500 miles from his home in Paris. How do the French say, “Oh s**t!”
According to the Daily Star, Luke Harding’s evening began with a few drinks at a pub, which eventually turned into a night clubbing in Manchester. When the party started winding down, he left — but he didn’t go home.
As the article reports, “The 19-year-old was getting a cab home at 4 a.m. when he suddenly decided it was a good idea to head to the French capital after finding his passport in his pocket.” Some people come up with their best ideas early in the morning. Apparently, this guy’s not one of those people.
Harding’s passport discovery prompted him to make a split-second decision to fly to Paris. And, because this is an era where bad decisions are always at your fingertips, it took just a few drunken swipes on his smartphone before he’d booked a flight to the land of a million berets.
Headed for the 6 a.m. flight, he made his way though airport security. Surprisingly, no one stopped him and suggested an international flight might not be the best idea for a wasted guy who had just drunkenly impulse-bought a ticket abroad.
For Harding, the rest of the journey is a blur. When he came to, he soon realized he was in an airport bathroom and was nowhere close to the U.K. Like any miserable tourist, he took a few selfies around the city, tweeted about his alcohol-fueled excursion and immediately headed home.
He ended up spending over £300 for the trip, but on the bright side, at least there’s always plenty of free bottled water on international flights. He probably needed it once that high-altitude hangover kicked in.
