In a bid to address the widespread unemployment challenge in Uganda and the need to create a physical platform through which employers and job seekers can connect, Brighter Monday Uganda Limited, is set to hold a Career expo themed ‘Bringing you together. ‘The Brighter Monday Career Expo will be held on 29th January 2016 from 8am to 6pm at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds Kampala and entrance is free for all.
Speaking at the launch press conference, Joshua Mugisha Country Manager Brighter Monday Uganda Limited said, ‘With unemployment, under employment and an increasingly young population, our country requires all stakeholders to step up to the challenge of creating sustainable solutions for the youth. The Brighter Monday Career Expo will therefore become one of the many platforms through which collective effort will be attained while addressing the various challenges of finding the right candidates and finding the right employer especially in this era of rampant youth unemployment and unemployability in Uganda.
Mugisha further added that the Brighter Monday Career Expo will feature a plethora of activities aimed at boosting the careers of job seekers and employees in Uganda such as on-spot interviews, an entrepreneurship hub for young entrepreneurs to showcase their innovation, volunteering and internship opportunities, entertainment, food courts, and hourly career guidance trainings among others.
‘This Expo which is expecting over 10,000 job seekers, entrepreneurs, college and university graduates will also provide an abundant talent pool for the universities and top employers as well as empower the attendees to make informed decisions about their career paths,’ added Mugisha.
Brighter Monday Uganda Limited has been privileged to partner with numerous sponsors that are bringing on board expertise from their respective fields of operation whose collective efforts will enable the Career Expo to be successful. These organizations include: Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Ministry Of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Enterprise Uganda, NTV, Capital FM, AIESEC, Human Resource Managers Association of Uganda (HRMAU), Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE), ROKE Telecom, Cheki Uganda and Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL).

Mr. Ocici Charles the Executive Director of Enterprise Uganda said, “Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) make up the biggest percentage of businesses in Uganda. This implies that the future of job creation and provision majorly lies with promoting and improving the sustainability of SMEs. Enterprise Uganda team will be available at the BrighterMonday Expo to provide counselling, mentorship and other services to entrepreneurs.”
Ms. Jackie Kamusiime from NTV Uganda said, ‘As a broadcasting company, NTV’s work is to avail the public with as much information as possible. Collective effort is needed to address the unemployment problem and NTV wants to be a part of creating solutions that can aid in reducing rampant unemployment and under unemployment. NTV has partnered with BrighterMonday to host this Expo as one of the many platforms to reduce unemployment hence aiding Uganda in social economic transformation.”
Mugisha further noted that during the Expo, graduates will have the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of employers which will go a long way in exposing what is basically required of them in the employment world. In addition, there will be hourly career guidance trainings at the Expo that will ensure that graduates gather as much information as possible on what is entailed in their career life.
“On the other hand, employers will showcase their brands, what it takes to work for them and articulate their expectations of potential employees while giving guidance to job seekers to develop the right career objectives,” Mugisha said.
As well, much as the Brighter Monday Career Expo is a free-to-attend event for all interested participants, they are required to come with a valid Identification Card (ID) and also register prior here.
