In a play to dominate entertainment and the Web in Uganda, New Vision has today acquired BigEyeUg for 10 billion Uganda shillings.

That’s a stunning sum for the three-year old company. But BigEyeUg has been able to hold its weight against entertainment heavyweights like Monitor, Observer and Red Pepper. BigEyeUg has upwards of 900,000 visitors, and it is adding an additional thousand visitors every day.

Speaking about their recent acquisition, Vision Group CEO, Robert Kabushenga said that this is a strategic move to take over the entertainment industry in Uganda. “We continue to invest in content because as they say, content is King,” he told a reporter. “Our acquisition of BigEyeUg comes at a time when entertainment is playing a key role in the lives of Ugandans. People are always looking for that content that will make their day and help them learn something new in a fun way, and that is what New Vision is about,” he added. “We have spent over 10 billion shillings in cash and shares and I am happy to announce that the company has been fully bought,” he concluded.

Top management at BigEyeUg who have been generous with information about the sale. had alot to say and smile about. While emphasizing that the company made it this far by staying hungry while remaining foolish, Managing director Ian Ortega said that he was very excited about the new deal. “This is a game changer. We are taking entertainment to the next level, this new acquisition by a trusted brand by New Vision shows that our dream of creating a home of Ugandan entertainment on the web is in secure hands. I applaud New Vision for the bold move,” he said.
